“Why don’t we get out of here and go somewhere a bit more private? We have a lot of lost time to make up for.” Jay nibbled on Minx’s ear.

“Mmm. Yes, we do. We can go back to my place.”

“Sounds good.” Jay reached into his pocket for his keys. Empty. Suddenly, he remembered that Barbara and Tristan had given him a ride. “Jetta was your ride home?”

“Yes. Is that a problem?” A look of confusion passed over Minx’s face.

“Normally, no. Tonight, however, I rode with Barbara and Tristian. My truck is in their driveway.”

“Well, damn,” Minx frowned. “Should I try calling Jetta to see if she can pop back over here and give us a ride?

“No. I’m sure the Wolfes will give us a ride back.”

Jay and Minx made their way past the clearing to where Barbara, Tristan, and Aric stood. It was pretty obvious they were keeping an eye on everyone in the clearing, and at the edge of the woods. A smile danced across Barbara’s face as soon as she spied him walking hand-in-hand with Minx.

“And I thought you said you weren’t in the market for a mate? It’s time to pay up.” Aric was the first to speak. His question may have been sarcastic as hell, but Jay knew there was no menace in his friend’s question.

“Aric, you should be ashamed of yourself. Jay and Minx have been waiting a long time to find each other.” Barbara wrapped Jay in a motherly hug. “I’m glad to see you’ve found your mate. I can already tell how happy you will be together.”

Jay not only heard the truth in Barbara’s words, he could feel it bone deep. Minx was his missing link. Quite literally the other half of his soul. He’d never believed the legends of old. The ones that told of those born with the wolf spirit. He’d thought it an old wives’ tale when the elders explained they were only born with half a soul; destined to roam the earth alone until they met their fated mate. Only after the mating ritual would the souls combine, creating a whole.

Now, that he had met and claimed Minx, he knew the truth of the old legends. Something deep in his essence had changed the second they had completed the mating ritual. His life was no longer about him. He lived for her and her alone.

Aric tossed him a set of keys. “Why don’t you get out of here? Enjoy your night? We’ll catch up tomorrow, and give you your assignments.”

“Sounds good.”
